WHO WE ARE

Many here didn’t come from a storybook Christian home. Our church family is friendly and nice but made up of broken and imperfect people from every kind of story imaginable, all on a journey of healing and growing together through Jesus. There are people attending, visiting, and leading at CSBC who have major hurts, habits, and many emotional, physical, and spiritual issues.

Together we are on the path to find what it means to find life abundantly in Jesus, to fully follow him, to break free from our hang-ups and pasts, and to walk in grace together. We care about everyone because everyone matters to God! We care about you, not who you vote for, not what you wear, not if you have tattoos, not if you have been through divorce, or are battling an addiction. If you have been abused or mistreated, we care about you! Our church is committed to know Jesus and serve others as a church family, and regardless of where you’re from or your story, even if you have never been to church, or have been burned by church, we believe you belong right here!

No matter where you’re from or how you got here, you matter to God and you matter to us!

OUR VISION

In Christ | On Mission | Together

OUR MISSION

Desiring to be part of a disciple making movement here in the Mid-Coast of Maine that touches and transforms lives, families, and communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we commit ourselves to the making of disciples who are ever growing in their identity in Christ, their investment in His church, and their involvement in God’s mission of reconciliation.

DRIVEN TO LOVE BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED US

We pledge to serve Christ in the fellowship of this congregation. We shall endeavor to love one another, to remember one another in prayer. We aspire to be a fellowship of the concerned, where the lost may find Jesus Christ, sinners may find pardon, seekers may find meaning for their lives, and where all who come may find welcome. We shall strive to be responsible Church members through faithful attendance, study and giving. We shall strive for the unity of this Church praying for, helping, serving, forgiving, speaking only that which builds up or imparts grace.

WHAT WE VALUE

We shall seek to be obedient to Christ in our daily living. Within our homes, in our labor, and while at leisure, we shall strive for attitudes and actions which reflect God's Spirit working through us. We pledge to maintain family and individual devotions, to educate our children in the Christian faith and to seek the salvation of our family and acquaintances. Believing that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, we shall endeavor to avoid experiences and habits which defile the body and hinder our witness. Bound together in a fellowship of faith with all who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we shall pray and labor for a spirit of unity among all Christians.

WHAT WE DO

Believing that our call to be a Church is a call to witness in the world, we dedicate ourselves anew as servants of the Lord of all life. Whenever men are in bondage to ignorance, poverty, fear or prejudice, we shall strive for justice, freedom, dignity and peace. Whenever men are separated by barriers of hostility and distrust, we shall be ministers of God's reconciling love. As we pledge our support to the work of our missionaries throughout the world, we commit ourselves to the mission to which God calls us all.

Acknowledging our human frailties and our need for forgiveness, we profess our need to be controlled by the Holy Spirit and commit our lives to Jesus Christ.

OUR CONVICTIONS

  • It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians. (Acts 11:26)

Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. (1 Peter 4:16)

Those who bear Christ’s name identify with Him because we have been changed by His love and grace. We declare to the world that He has made an eternal difference in our lives and we long for that in the hearts of others too.

We believe in the ongoing process of spiritual growth of the Christian through the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. Each person is to grow in their knowledge of God’s Word and in developing and employing their spiritual gifts through the Church so others may come to know Christ and the Church be built up into maturity.

    ‍John 8:31-32; 14:16-17; 16:13; 17:17; Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Galatians 5:22-23; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 5:11-14

  • Sharing the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ. We desire every man, woman, and child, hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. (Romans 1:16; John 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 5:21)

  • Proclaiming the authority of the Bible, God’s Word (2 Timothy 4:1-5; Hebrews 4:12)

  • Making disciples who make disciples (Matthew 28:16-20; 2 Timothy 2:2)

  • A solid practice in speaking with God, seeking His will and guidance, and intercessory prayer for our world and each other. (James 5:15; Philippians 4:6; Colossians 4:2; Romans 12:12)

  • Throughout Scripture, we are ever reminded of Jesus’s heart for those who were suffering, marginalized, and persecuted. His life was marked by radical generosity and compassion for those who needed it most, showing how the Kingdom of God advances through sacrificial love. (Leviticus 19:9-10; Luke 6:30; Romans 12:13; James 2:15-16; 1 John 3:17; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 11)

  • Serving with our spiritual gifts to build up the body of Christ. (1 Peter 4:10-11)

  • God’s design for marriage, for gender, and for the family. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 127:3-5; Matthew 19:4-6 ; Ephesians 6:1-4; Ephesians 5:25, 33)

  • We believe every human life is precious because God created every person in His image. Human life is of priceless worth in all its magnitude, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural/physical death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Jeremiah 1:5; Psalm 139).

  • Only God is worthy of worship. We worship God in both truth and spirit. (Mark 12:30; John 4:23-24; John 12:32)

  • Elders protect the flock from spiritual threats and wolves. (Matthew 24:4-5; Acts 20:28-32; Galatians 1:6-12; Colossians 2:4; 2 Peter 2:1-22; 2 Corinthians 11)

WE SERVE

CSBC is not a building. Church is not an event. CSBC is a family, God’s family. We come from all walks of life and we come together to serve, because Jesus served us, first and laid down His life for us. Our teams come together with God given gifts to serve and build others up.

(Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45; Philippians 2:8)

Within our CSBC community, we invite all to…

GIVE RIDICULOUSLY

We want to give of our time, talents, and resources so much that it completely baffles everyone around us.

HAVE SOME FUN

If living a life with Jesus seems boring, then something is way wrong! From the youngest to the oldest, we value having a good time and including others in the celebration of knowing Jesus and living our lives together.

JUST SHOW UP

Real faith requires we put our beliefs into action (put our money where our mouth is). Jesus calls us to be both present and involved in order to make a difference.

CONTINUAL GROWTH

We commit to continually learn, share, and challenge our ever changing culture. We want to avoid becoming stagnant in reaching people with the gospel, wherever they are. We strive to live a gospel centered life to advance, over trying to live a life to preserve.

BE A SAFE PLACE

We hope to present a safe, encouraging place for all people to ask questions, explore their faith, and experience community in Camden and the Mid-coast area.
